From 8 to 9 October 2021, the virtual conference “Teacher Education and Society in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq: Cooperation and Innovation” will take place via Zoom.

The conference addresses the recent developments in teacher education in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and pays special attention to the two innovative thematic fields Diversity Education and Entrepreneurship Education. The conference seeks to demonstrate how innovations and international cooperation in teacher education can support knowledge transfer and social engagement, facilitate the acceptance of innovative educational ideas among parents and other stakeholders in education and thus foster the political, social and economic development in the KRI. The conference invites researchers, interested teachers and other stakeholders (educational administration, international organisations, companies and NGOs) to discuss the interaction between teacher education and the Kurdish society and the cooperation between university and non-university actors in the area of training and innovation transfer. In particular, the conference seeks to promote the idea of (pedagogical and social) entrepreneurship among the young generation in the KRI through innovative teacher education and contribute to social engagement, to the developing of the economy and to the decreasing of the unemployment rate in the KRI.

The conference is the third event in a series of conferences organized in co-operation between the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) as part of a joint project of the Chair of Diversity Education and International Educational Research (FAU) and the Professorship for Teaching Economy and Law (FAU) and the College of Basic Education (SUE). The joint project “Teacher Education and Society: Potentials and Innovation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq” is covered by funds from the DAAD provided by the Federal Foreign Office (Germany).

The conference will offer paper sessions and round tables. The main conference language is English; presentations in Kurdish might be possible in exceptional cases, provided there is a short summary of the presentation in English.
